Education and training
Epworth is committed to educating the next generation of medical professionals, and helps train more than 2,000 students at any one time through our Education and Training.
Donations helped fund the world-class new Simulation and Education Centre facilities; as well as a suite of prestigious endowed scholarships and other training opportunities for staff.
Case study: endowed cardiac nursing scholarships
Members of one of Epworth’s longest-running auxiliaries, Epworth Heartbeat recently spent 12 months raising funds – through donations, craft stalls and social events – to endow two cardiac nursing scholarships at Epworth.
Heartbeat members usually raise funds to purchase cardiac equipment. However, 2014 marked the organisation’s 30th anniversary, so they wanted to celebrate by creating a special legacy and that would recognise the wonderful care that cardiac nurses provide.
Each of the two scholarships is endowed in perpetuity, and will be offered to an outstanding cardiac nurse every year, to further their training or undertake research.
The scholarships program at Epworth HealthCare is a key way for nurses to improve their skills and opportunities, and to provide patients with the best care possible.
Scholarships are awarded to Epworth nurses who display outstanding qualities, and may be used in a number of ways, such as to:
- undertake further specialised training
- travel to attend international conferences or symposiums
- undertake research projects on the ward to improve performance and patient care
- organise collaborative workshops and learning opportunities
When scholarship recipients return to the wards, they are in a position to share all they have learned with their colleagues and, in many cases, to instigate changes to workplace operations or introduce new programs and treatments, to further improve the care given to patients at Epworth.
