Building and facilities

It is essential for our patients’ wellbeing that our hospital facilities continue to represent best practice in both comfort and care. Donations enable us to invest in the latest technologies, world-class operating facilities, and the most nurturing environments for patients and their families to rest and recover at Epworth.

Case study: cancer ward refurbishment

Donors recently funded a complete renovation and refurbishment of the Cancer Ward at Epworth Freemasons.

A $391,560 part of a project called ‘Enhancing Care for Cancer Patients,’ this comprehensive refurbishment has ensured that cancer patients receive not only the best possible care during their time with us, but also that they are given the most comforting and nurturing environment in which to fight their battle against cancer.

New, state-of-the-art equipment

Donors have equipped the Oncology Ward with state-of-the-art medical equipment that ensures patients receive the most advanced treatments and the best possible care in the greatest standard of comfort.

Palliative care rooms

For patients who ultimately will not recover from their disease, ensuring the final stages of their lives is as comfortable and nurtured as possible, is paramount.

Donors funded an upgrade of several rooms overlooking Fitzroy Gardens with new furnishings that are both practical and comfortable for palliative care patients and their visiting loved ones.

Patient facilities

The ‘Enhancing Care for Cancer Patients’ project included a number of upgrades to different areas of both the Ward and Day Oncology areas, including:

  • landscaping internal balconies to create a series of attractive and comfortable outdoor spaces for patients and their visitors to enjoy
  • renovating the waiting room to increase both size and comfort, to meet growing community need for Epworth’s oncology services
  • redesigning the layout and facilities in both the ward and day-treatment areas focusing on safety and efficiency, including better-placed medical record workstations, enhanced staff education areas, and rooms to accommodate the appointment of a Medical Oncology Registrar
